What does the backup file contain?
A complete database export (.bacpac) of your Business Central Online environment: master data, transactions, setup, and extension metadata – references to extensions, tables and structures. Data outside Business Central, such as SharePoint files, Power BI reports and Power Automate flows, is not included.
How often is a backup taken?
VisionBackup can back up your Business Central Online environment up to 10 times per month – so you always have recent copies to fall back on.
Where is the backup stored?
With you. You download the file and keep it on your own server or in your own backup system – outside Microsoft's cloud. That also means you decide how many copies to keep, and for how long.
Can we restore data from the backup?
Yes. The .bacpac file can be restored in a local SQL Server environment, so you can look up old data, troubleshoot or perform an emergency restore – regardless of whether Business Central Online is available.
Doesn't Microsoft already back up Business Central Online?
Yes, but for the platform's own operations: the copy stays in Microsoft's cloud, you cannot download it, and a restore goes back no more than 28 days. VisionBackup gives you your own copy that you control – including data older than 28 days.

Why keep your own backup when Microsoft already takes one?
Microsoft does back up Business Central Online – but the copy lives in the same cloud as your production data, you cannot download it, and a restore can go back no more than 28 days.
If you need data further back – for an audit, for troubleshooting or to look up old transactions – you have no copy of your own. And if your IT policy or auditor requires a copy outside the operations provider's environment, Microsoft's own backup cannot meet that requirement.
